Phones, small motors and water fittings must prove their NOM at the border
Published 28 September 2026 · Diario Oficial de la Federación
What changed
The Ministry of Economy added products to Annex 2.4.1, the list where customs checks NOM compliance at the point of entry: faucets, valves and fittings for drinking-water systems (NOM-012-CONAGUA-2021), AC motors from 1 W to under 180 W (NOM-033-ENER-2019), and mobile phones and other terminal equipment (NOM-221-SCFI-2017 and NOM-221/2-SCFI-2018). The water and motor lines apply from the day after publication; the phone lines 30 business days after.

The source and its dates
Diario Oficial de la Federación, via SIDOF (Secretaría de Gobernación). Published 28 September 2026; in force from 29 September 2026 (phones and terminals 30 business days later, about 9 or 10 November 2026 by our count). Checked against the source on 11 October 2026.
What to do
If you import any of these goods, have the NOM certificate or test report in hand before the goods reach the border: the check now happens at customs, not later in the market. Ask your customs broker to confirm which of your tariff fractions are on the list.
